~

Do you groom cats? No, we only groom dogs. We groom no other animals.

~

How long will my dog's groom take? All dogs are different, dog's of different sizes, different coat types, different tempreme, etc will take different times to groom. We usually give a time of 2 - 2.5 hours. If preferered we can just give you a call or text when your dog his ready for you.

~

Do you sedate dogs to groom them? No, we do not sedate dogs to groom them.

~

Do you groom aggressive dogs? No, we do not groom aggressive dogs. Dog grooming is how we make our living, if we get bitten and cannot work, we cannot earn a living.

~

My dog is matted, my previous groomer just clipped my dog off really short but I didn't like it, will you brush my dog out? No, if a dog is matted it is our policy to clip a dogs coat off, how short we have to clip is determined by how close the matts are to the dogs skin. Trying to brush out matts will only inflict stress and pain on an animal, this is not only illegal but cruel. If you would like to keep your dog's coat long but do not have the time to brush your dog regularly you can book your dog in weekly for a brush out.

~

Can I book my appointments for a whole year? Yes, September we recieve our diary for the following year so from then you can book any appointments you want for the following year.

~

Do you work from a shop? No, we have a purpose designed salon at the back of our home. Please enter by the green, double gates at the side of our house (situated on Unwin Street), you can park your car on the driveway, then enter the back garden by the wooden gate, Canine Wags salon is through the door, signed, opposite.

~

Does my dog have to be caged, while waiting for me to pick him/her up? Yes, for a dogs safety we always put your dog in a cage while waiting for you, so that they:

  • do not come into contact with other dogs that may not be friendly or may be TOO friendly.
  • do not get trodden on or tripped over by the groomers
  • do not get loose if someone enters the salon.

~

Is your salon secure? Yes, while grooming your dog we lock the gate to our back garden, the salon door is shut and dogs are either secured in our cages or secured by neck strap to our table.

~

I don't like the sound of my dog wearing a neck strap whilst on your tables. A neck strap is just like a collar and lead, it inflicts no stress or pain on your dog but ensures that your dog cannot fall off our tables.

~

Is my dog left on his/ her own at anytime? No, your dog is with one of our groomers at all times.

~

~

Can I stay with my dog whilst you groom them? No, unfortunately our insurance company does not allow this. If your dog is timid and hates to be away from you, we can assure you that in our experience these dogs ALWAYS settle when you have left the salon. Dogs feed off human anxieties and this is usually always the case.

~

Is my dog too old to be groomed? No, but it is always best to keep old or ill dogs grooming style simple and short to keep the grooming time short.

Why does my dogs haircut cost more than mine?

  1. Your hairdresser doesn’t wash and trim your bottom
  2. You don’t go for eight weeks without washing or brushing your hair
  3. You keep still while the hairdresser cuts your hair..
  4. Your hairdresser doesn’t have to clean your ears.
  5. Your hairdresser doesn’t have to clean discharge from your eyes.
  6. You sit still for your hairdresser.
  7. Your haircut doesn’t include a manicure or pedicure.
  8. Your hairdresser only washes and cuts the hair on your head.
  9. You don’t bite or scratch your hairdresser.
  10. The likelihood of you pooing/ weeing on the hairdresser is pretty slim.

This list may be funny BUT it is TRUE!! Grooming a dog simply takes more time, patience AND COURAGE than cutting a human's hair.
